About the Trust

Sable Island Preservation Trust is a non-profit, charitable organization established in 1997 to help preserve and protect Sable Island and its unique ecosystem. Sable Trust’s goal is to promote and conduct scientific research and monitoring and to undertake conservation programs which will ensure the long-term stability and viability of Sable Island, its plants and animal life, and the surrounding marine environment. Sable Trust will also help ensure the long-term conservation of Sable Island by preserving its history and building awareness of Sable’s significance locally, nationally and internationally.

Sable Island is a designated Atlantic Coastal Action Program (ACAP) site administered by the Sable Island Preservation Trust, one of 16 such sites around the Atlantic Canada. ACAP is a community-based program initiated by Environment Canada to help Atlantic Canadians restore and sustain watersheds and coastal areas and the Sable Island Preservation Trust is proud to be part of this very important environmental initiative.
